When and how to get here, and what you can and can't have at camp...

Arriving and Departing
Each session of camp begins on a Sunday after 2:00 p.m. Sessions 1-4 end on a Friday (the shortened session 5 ends on Sunday) with a camp horse show that begins at 3:00 p.m. followed by an awards banquet that ends at about 8:00 pm.

Getting to Foxfield from the Airport
Foxfield will pick up campers who arrive at BurbankAirport between 12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m. on the Sunday their session begins. They should plan to depart between 9:00 am and 11:00 am on the day after their session ends. Burbank Airport pickup costs $40.00. Please note that Foxfield does not offer airport service from Los Angeles International Airport. For service from LAX, Foxfield recommends Street Scene Limousine Service at 800-610-2673.

Parental Visits
Foxfield asks that parents not visit campers during camp or take them out for meals. This makes it hard on some of the other campers who may be homesick. Parental visits can be arranged between sessions for campers who are staying at Foxfield for more than one session in a row.

Local Hotels
Parents who plan to stay in the area overnight when picking up or dropping off their campers can stay at the Westlake Village Inn (818-889-0230) or the Hyatt Westlake Plaza (805-497-9991) among others.

Horse assignments
Campers are assigned to horses and riding groups according to their riding ability, which is determined during a placing lesson on the first night of camp. Riders may move from a less advanced group to a more advanced group, or vice versa, only if a member of Foxfield's instructional staff determines that such a change is warranted. Foxfield is primarily concerned with the safety and well-being of its campers; changes will not be made unless the riding instructors believe that such a change would be in the camper's best interest.

Camper's Own Horse
Campers who have their own horses may bring them. Space is limited, and stalls are made available on a first-come, first-served basis. Board, which costs $250.00 per session, includes an individual box stall and two meals of alfalfa hay per day. Different, or additional, feed, if required, must be furnished by the camper, and must be brought in covered, locking containers that are marked with the camper's name. Every horse must have a health certificate stating that the horse is in good health, and that all its shots are current. Stalls must be vacated by 10:00 a.m. on the morning after the session ends.

Phone calls
Please...no phone calls during camp. Campers should leave their cell phones at home. In case of emergency, parents may call Foxfield at 805-495-5515 during the following hours:

  • 8:00 am - 9:00 am
  • 12:00 noon - 2:00 pm
  • 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Calls will be taken at this time only. Please limit calls to three minutes.

Electronics
Cell phones, MP3 players, video games and other electronic devices are not allowed at camp.

Meals
Meals are carefully planned to provide a nutritious, well-balanced diet. Foxfield must be notified in advance if your child is a vegetarian.

Laundry
Laundry is sent out once a week at no extra charge.

Spending money
Parents may want to provide campers with spending money in small denominations (dollar bills are best) for Foxfield's soda machine, the snack stand at the beach, or to buy items during an optional visit to a local saddlery. Foxfield's head counselor will hold campers' money for them "on account."

TV
TV's and radios are provided for the students' enjoyment in the Club House. They may bring radios for their own room if desired.

Gum
Gum is hazardous to both horses and riders, and is therefore not allowed at Foxfield.

Medical care
Good doctors and an excellent hospital are only minutes away from Foxfield.

Additional Events
Each session includes a field trip to the beach. Also, in addition to the camp horse show at the end of the session, there is a rated horse show during third session, which campers can enter at additional cost.
