about horse riding camp
Just the place for girls who are serious about horses and horseback riding!

Foxfield's riding camp has been welcoming horseback riders from all over the world for more than girls and their horse30 years.

Campers (and sometimes their horses) have come to ride at Foxfield's summer camp from Asia, Europe and all over North America (including the riding camp's local area, southern California).

Foxfield offers four two-week summer sessions between mid-June and mid-August. Foxfield's final session, which begins in mid-August, is a shortened one week session -- perfect for new campers who want to give the place a try. All five sessions give equestrian-minded girls the opportunity to spend plenty of time riding, working around and learning about horses.

Thirty girls attend each session, where they ride twice daily on most days of camp. Each day includes a formal lesson and a "fun" ride that introduces riders to types of riding that they might not do every day. Each camper rides two to three different horses during her session (in addition to her own horse, if she has brought one).

But during the camp's "fun" riding time, campers can sample dressage, driving, vaulting and combined training. When they're not on horseback, campers spend a lot of time at horse-side, learning about (and practicing) horse care, grooming, tack use and care, and all aspects of good horsemanship.

During the second week of camp, all students ride in a combined training event, along with a more traditional camp horse show that is held on the last day of the session. Parents are invited to attend the horse show and the awards banquet that follows. Foxfield's rated summer horse show also takes place at Foxfield during third session; third session campers are sent information about entering ahead of time if they choose to.

Riders are welcome to bring their own horses to camp if they have them, though only a few stalls are available each session. Campers who don't own a horse need not worry; Foxfield provides horses to the vast majority of its campers. Girls may find themselves riding many of the same horses that they see winning championships on the show circuit or performing without saddles and bridles on Foxfield's world-renowned Equestrian Drill Team.

They can compete in "People-Jumping" on Foxfield's human-sized jumping course. At night, campers have treasure hunts, sing-alongs and skits. Campers in sessions 1-4 spend a day at the beach and have an opportunity to visit a nearby tack store.
